I'm finally getting around to posting the photos of the DIY projects I made for Christmas. SLACKER.
I made DIY iPad/tablet displays for the kitchen. I made 5 in all, including one for myself. The wood that we bought was 8 ft. in length so we could have made more but the wood started to split towards the end. The dimensions of these are 12" tall by 10" wide. Perfect size for iPads and smaller tablets. I also taped the ends of it off and painted chalkboard paint in the middle for memos. And also included a nail and clip at the top to hold recipes if you have them on paper.
I used scrabble tile holders to place the tablet on, and Nathen cut up some wood for the back part for the actual stand to lean against.
I used two different tutorials to help me because I loved both so much and like certain things about each one. There's this one and this one.
the first one I attempted I was making for myself and Nathen incase I royally screwd up. my original plan was to stain them after assembling but I didn't think about the fact that my wood and my scrabble tiles were different colors originally so when I first stained it before it even dried I hated it and was so mad at myself because the colors didn't match up and to me it looked funny. I actually love it now though once it dried, it matches pretty well now and wish I would have just waited and did them all this way. but since I was so upset I rushed back to take the stain back and got paint instead. I decided to paint 2 of them a creamy white and the other 2 a light brown. Then added the chalkboard paint, and the clip. I attached the scrabble tile holders first with wood glue, then used smaller nails to finish that off. Also on the stand, we used wood glue first and to make sure it was staying on, screwed them on. It was a lot of work, and I had to sand A LOT of the wood, over and over again. Everyone loved them..my mom, my mother in law, my sister in law and Nathens aunt. Now time to share some photos of them. Hope you love them too!
My supplies: Ryobi Sander, Chalkboard Spray Paint, Gorilla Wood Glue, Paint Brushes, Wood Stain, Wood Putty, Scrabble Tile Holders, Painting Tape, Nails, Hammer, Tool Bag, and a Sobe. (: |
After my first few steps: Sanded down, and attached the tile holder. |

Chalkboard paint painted.
Nail and clip attached
In working order with an iPad.
This one is mine and Nathens. Ok, so the stains are still mismatched...but I kinda like it. Still have to put the chalkboard paint and the clip on ours. Loving it though.
